Andrew Combs, Indie-Country Meets Folk-Rock

Hello MTIG readers,

Do you like Americana/Indie Folk/Alternative Country? If so, I’ve got an artist for you. Allow me to introduce you to the sweet sounds of Andrew Combs.

I first discovered Combs via an hours-long-digging-through-Spotify-for-new-music rabbit hole and it was love at first listen. I was instantly hooked on his vintage-inspired yet indie-country style. His sound recalls classics of the Glen Campbell and Harry Nilsson variety while offering modern and thoughtful lyrics that tackle topics from lost love to the changing political climate.

I was quite literally counting down the days ‘til Combs’ third album, Canyons of My Mind, was released on April 7 and was not disappointed. While you’ll still find the moody love songs present on his first two albums, I was particularly fond of Combs’ continued foray into social commentary coupled with greater rock influences – listen to “Bourgeois King” and you’ll see what I mean.

From simple ballads to tracks with heavier instrumental qualities, Combs’ mastery of the singing-songwriting combination shines through in each song. While I can honestly say you can’t go wrong with any of Combs’ songs, here are some suggestions of where to start:

"Bourgeois King" from Canyons of My Mind

"Rainy Day Song" from All These Dreams

"Please, Please, Please" from Worried Man
