3 Artists that Sound Like Noah and the Whale

As the creative minds behind classics such as “5 Years Time” and “L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.,” Noah and the Whale are the British rockers that achieved greatness on the cusp of the 00’s indie movement. Known for songs with engaging stories and uplifting sunny-pop melodies, their split in 2015 was definitely a disappointment for many. To fill the void, here are three artists that have carried the torch with a similar style and narrative appeal.

1. Henry Jamison - “Real Peach”

The culmination of a long line of writers and composers, Henry Jamison’s current tenure as an aspiring musician comes as no surprise. With beautifully layered stories of love and war, this artist is on a steady rise to the forefront of the current indie-folk scene. Get ready for atmospheric storytelling that combines resonant bass lines with distant banjos and acoustic guitars.

2. Charlie Fink - “I Was Born To Be A Cowboy”

Likely to be the most obvious addition to this list, the former lead singer of Noah and the Whale subsequently launched his career as a solo project. Embodying a similar style to the catalog he cultivated in his time with the full band, his signature uplifting sound carries throughout. With the use of whistles, harmonies, and vibrant horn sections, you’ll find a lot to love here.

3. Caleb Groh - “Smoky Mountain Angel (Of Doom)” and “Thunder At”

Caleb knows how to leverage unique instrumentations to create something truly exciting. While his vocal styles are very similar to Fink’s, his arrangements go a step further in their contemporary aspirations. Take “Thunder At” as an example, which features a thunderstorm that leads into a horns solo. Some songs definitely remain straight and to the point, but Caleb’s sophomore album, Ocelot, makes sure to keep listeners on their toes in the best way possible.
