New Songs From Oh Wonder, Alt-J, and Kendrick Lamar
This week there were so many new music drops that it was nearly impossible to choose which one to feature. That is why we are making an exception and highlighting three songs this week as opposed to the standard one song of the week you’re used to. I hope you enjoy these tunes as much as I did.
1. “Ultralife” by Oh Wonder
Oh Wonder successfully established themselves as major players in the alt-electro-pop scene with their 2015 self-titled album. Now they’re back with a more colorful approach, mixing Bollywood vibes with the atmospheric sound they’re known for. Get ready for an incredibly catchy chorus and brilliant use of a sitar.
2. “In Cold Blood” by Alt-J
Just two weeks after Alt-J’s avant-garde music video and song release, they are back with an edgy new tune. The band utilizes deep horns and lofty keys to create an intense composition that has fans even more excited for the upcoming album.
3. “HUMBLE.” by Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick released a brand new track alongside a brilliant music video today in the quick ramp up to his album dropping on April 7th. This time around, he disorients listeners by juxtaposing conceited verses with a chorus that encourages rappers to be “humble.” This challenges the perception that being humble is a weakness in the rap game, which Kendrick demonstrates through masterful lyricism. Add an aggressive, forceful backing track and you have a hit from one of the most influential hip-hop minds on the scene today.
