The 5 Playlists of Playlist Week
Last week we featured five incredibly unique playlists, each occupying their own corner of the music-sphere. This includes atmospheric indie, holiday tunes, and even some hardcore punk. So take a listen, follow your favorites, and enjoy!
1. Middle School Slow Dance
In this playlist, you will find classic heartthrobs from The Goo Goo Dolls to The Fray. If you’re a 90s kid, you will know the lyrics to approximately 83% of these nostalgia-inducing throwbacks.
2. The Lounge Grounds
Lo-fi hip hop using horn and vocal samples from 40’s jazz, drum beats and basslines from 70’s hip-hop, as well as sounds and lines from famous movies. This combination results in a sound that is both relaxing and thoughtful - full of reference to and reverence for the art that came before. Welcome to the Lounge Grounds.
3. Tis the Season
‘Tis the Season has a variety of fresh original holiday songs and new takes on classic Christmas tunes, such as Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward’s role-reversing rendition of “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” Matt Pond PA slows things down with a harmonious guitar spin on the Griswold Family favorite, “Holiday Road.” And to prepare for the dawn of the new year, Andrew Bird serves up a folksy “Auld Lang Syne” with his signature plucked violin prowess.
4. Songs for Thinking
Inside you’ll find atmospheric meditations from the likes of Ben Howard, Bon Iver, RY X and more. Each song embodies layers and reverberating vocals that leave a vast amount of space for your mind to wander. Make sure to bask in the opportunity to explore certain moments, with these songs as your guide.
5. Basement Show Mosh Pit
This playlist doesn’t have the same power as a real show, but the fast guitars, shouted lyrics, and latent patriarchal anger will definitely make your home or office infinitely more punk rock than it was before.
