3 Albums To Listen To With The Windows Down
Full transparency, I am not writing this article by choice. The air conditioner in my CRV is busted and it was the middle of summer in hot and humid St. Louis, Missouri. As a result, I cruised around town with the windows down on a daily basis for over a month.
During that time, I did some experimenting and discovered a few albums that are ideally listened to on a highway with wind blaring through every crevice of your car. Get ready for some atmospheric guitar tones and longing vocals that sweep across your ears then evaporate into the sunlit sky.
1. Just Give In / Never Going Home by Hazel English
The sound produced by this Oakland, California up-and-comer is reminiscent of the locale in which her music is set. With every play, you are made to feel like you are cruising with the top down along the Pacific or in the middle of a vast grassy plain without a care in the world. The layered guitars and reverberating vocals leave a lot of room for English’s songs to breathe and bring a welcome shower of laid-back vibes with every listen.
2. Peripheral Vision by Turnover
Another album replete with resounding layers of sound, Turnover has mastered the art of creating big compositions that don’t overtake the vocals. Even while the guitars are catchy and the bass lines are tight, the lyrics are still able to shine. So blast this album in your car when trying to fill the air, then listen with some headphones to appreciate the songwriting on a different level.
3. Young Mister by Young Mister
As one of the more energetic additions to this list, every song on display in Young Mister’s self-titled album is full of heart. Songwriter Steven Fiore knows how to craft a chorus that steals your attention, and the sound embodied throughout the LPs 8-track run never fails to lift your spirits. Whether it’s the subtle horns, upbeat drumming, or lively guitar riffs, there’s a lot to love here.
