When Stunning Vocals and Meaningful Lyrics Collide
Pepper Said, the refreshingly immersive brainchild of Nashville's Madison Pepper, touches on the emotional challenges of toxic relationships in the new single, “Soap.” Inspired by the work of her grandfather, Pepper has been writing music since the age of 7, drawing influences from Paramore, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and Joshua James to name a few.
As the cornerstone for her new EP, “Soap” utilizes atmospheric guitar work and meticulously placed bass tones to let the vocals truly shine. Speaking with Madison, it’s clear that a lot of heart went into this song and the story it tells, shedding light on her experience during a damaging relationship. In her own words:
“My purpose is to express the gradual anxiety, fear, and stress that occurs as a relationship becomes toxic, and confusing these emotions with ‘love.’ I wanted people to be able to relate to the situation and feel less alone, especially people that are still in it. Ultimately I hope the support, empathy, and connection I'm trying to give through this song will inspire men and women in toxic relationships to feel comfortable talking to someone and getting out.”
As a work of compassion for those that could use a helping hand, and a heartfelt song that showcases Pepper’s impressive vocal chops, there’s a lot to love in this debut single.
