Playlist: Calm Choir

Our music blog has quite a penchant for modern music. This doesn’t necessarily mean that we only like contemporary music. With our three heads together, I’d say there’s a pretty comprehensive wealth of music history. That being said, I created this playlist to recognize the power of one of the oldest methods of music composition: the choir.

Specifically, this playlist hosts both contemporary music that incorporates choirs as the primary method of production, as well as contemporary musicians performing centuries-old hymns. Most importantly, the first and last songs on this list are versions of a popular Icelandic hymn, Heyr Himna Smiður. Written around the year 1100, this song proves that a masterpiece will always be relevant.
