This week marks the release of several new songs from bands that music lovers have become incredibly familiar with over the past few years. Check out these new releases from already-established titans of the alt-indie world.

1. "Thunder" by Imagine Dragons

After their relatively lukewarm sophomore release in 2015, Imagine Dragons is back with a vengeance, producing singles that are destined to be mass hits. This week we are introduced to the clean and catchy “Thunder.” In terms of instrumental talent and creativity, there isn’t much to be found here, but this song will undoubtedly get stuck in your head. Considered yourself warned.

2. "What Now" by Sylvan Esso

Sylvan Esso has become the darling of the electro-indie sphere with their infectious stage presence and reliably inventive arrangements. In this newest album, What Now, it is easy to see nothing has changed. The ten tracks on display here are refreshing and tightly produced, combining scratchy electronic influences with soft and sweet vocals that prove to be a recipe for success.

3. "J-Boy" by Phoenix

It’s been four years since Phoenix last released music and today they have returned from the void with a brand new single. The crudely-drawn cover art leaves a lot to the imagination, but after the first listen it’s easy to see the usual energetic, forward leaning sound hasn’t gone anywhere. There are definitely some 80’s influences embedded in this new track, and we’ll have to see where the rest of the album takes us with its release this June.

4. "Curse + Crush" by Dispatch

After nearly 20 years, Dispatch is still releasing music and continuing to evolve with every new track. This time around we have a much cleaner sound coupled with some folk influences and the unique voice of Chadwick Stokes we’ve come to know and love. While this music is definitely veering in the direction of the mainstream, the song is pleasant enough to bring memories of the early Dispatch while still exciting you for what’s to come.

5. "One More Love Song" by Mac Demarco

This is officially the last single release before DeMarco’s This Old Dog drops in early May. It’s amazing a sound this laid back and effortless became the pinnacle of today’s lo-fi indie scene. Mac DeMarco’s rise doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon as he doubles down on those chill vibes he’s so good at producing. Keep an eye out for his new LP on May 5th.
